Hsiao-Ching Chou Hsiao-Ching Chou is a partner and senior consultant at Suzuki + Chou Communimedia. From February 2000 to July 2007, she was the award-winning food editor for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. Yes, the title garnered many VIP invitations to swanky events and dinners where she gets treated like a rock star. No, it did not mean she reviewed restaurants — which is the domain of the restaurant critic — or that she necessarily got a free meal everywhere she went. Rather, Hsiao-Ching wrote weekly about cooking, eating and thinking about food.

Her stories took readers beyond the common recipes and experiences. They lured them into their own memories about food and traditions, as well as those of the champions of good eating she profiled. They appealed to their sense of curiosity, poetry, adventure, and engender a visceral response, making them hungry for food — and for more of her words.

Hsiao-Ching's education began in the womb of her mother, who was a respected journalist in Taipei, Taiwan. It was in part the University of Missouri's School of Journalism that brought her family to the United States. Her parents both received master's degrees from the renowned school that would become her own alma mater two decades later. Her fate as a future food writer was sealed when her parents opened a Chinese restaurant. It would be where she spent most of her time growing up.

Her culinary tales have earned prestigious recognitions, including the Bert Greene Award from the International Association of Culinary Professionals, and a first-place prize in food feature writing from the Association of Food Journalists. Her spirit and easy-going style attract many invitations to appear on radio and television shows, as well as to teach cooking at area avocational schools.

She lives in the Queen Anne neighborhood of Seattle with her daughter and husband, who's a television producer at KING-TV (NBC). CONTACT: hc@suzukichoumedia.com
